SGC Purpose Statement

The purpose of the School Governance Council is to provide parents, school staff, and community members with a leadership role in the management of the school. The School Governance Council is a governing body that is representative of the community and the school, but operates under the control and management of the Board of Education. The Council is responsible for making decisions regarding the strategic direction of the school including:

Approve the school strategic plan and updates
Approve the annual budget and annual resource allocations
Manage the Request for Flexibility process
Participate in hiring the principal (in the case of a vacancy)
Provide annual feedback on principal performance.

SGC Meeting Protocols

Meeting Protocol:

All SGC meetings are open to the public per Georgia's Open Meetings Act
Agendas and minutes are posted per Georgia's Open Records Act.

Public Comment Protocol:

Members of the public do not participate in SGC meetings but may provide comment during designated public comment periods.
The Public Comment period of the meeting is designed to gain input from the public - not for the Council to give immediate responses.
During the public comment period of the meeting, each member of the public will have up to two minutes to speak.
Public comments may also be submitted using the Public Comment Form or by emailing a council member.
