Arrival

Students should arrive at school BY 7:40am. 

If student arrives AFTER 7:40am, parents/guardians must walk their students inside the school to sign them in and fill out a tardy slip.

Carpool:

ALL families will receive a family carpool number included in their back-to-school mailing.

This carpool number will be used to connect students to correct cars at dismissal time. 
There are two copies of the number for families convenience.  This number has been assigned to your family - siblings all have the same carpool number. Please cut out and place the number on the passenger side of your car’s dashboard should your child(ren) participate in carpool at Lake Windward.
Keep these numbers even if you do not plan on using carpool on a regular basis.  Sometimes, during the school year, life events happen where you may need to use carpool. 
If you do not have your number, it will cause a delay in being able to pick up your child due to the fact that we will need to confirm who is picking up the student(s). ANYONE who is dropping off and/or picking up the child should be aware of the LWE Carpool guidelines.
Students will need to learn their number as this is how they will be called to cars.

MORNING CARPOOL

·      We typically have a large number of families participating in carpool. To assist with the smooth process, please follow the guidelines below. Your patience is also always appreciated 😊. There may be blockage and delays at the traffic light at the intersection of Jones Bridge and campus, so please plan accordingly.

·      Students are not allowed to be dropped off before 7:10 a.m.

·      All parents should remain in the carpool line to drop off their children and parents should remain in their vehicle.

·      Carpool flow is in one direction.  Do not attempt to turn around (U turn) or go against the flow of traffic.

·      Staff members will be present to supervise and assist as needed with opening/closing doors. Please practice safe exiting with your child(ren).

·      Your child should be ready to exit your car as you approach the drop-off area and ONLY exit on the passenger side of the vehicle. 

·      The drop-off area is ONLY at the sidewalk part of the lane.  DO NOT drop students off in the grass area.

·      After exiting the car, they must proceed to either set of double doors by the MEDIA CENTER. Carpool students will enter through those doors only.

·      Never pass a car at any time in the carpool line.  It is a NO PASSING ZONE!

·      U-turns are not allowed at any point during the carpool process (drop off or pick up).

·      At no time should you double park or park in the fire lane.  Please be sure to always park in a marked parking spot.  

·      Carpool ends at 7:40 AM when the bell rings as staff must report to their classrooms immediately. If you arrive after the 7:40 AM bell, you must come in to the front office to sign your child in.   Students are tardy if they are not in their classroom when the bell rings.  As a reminder, students who take the bus are never marked tardy in the unlikely event the bus arrives late to school.

AFTERNOON CARPOOL

·      Students all need to learn their carpool number, start practicing it now. It is KEY to helping with a smooth carpool dismissal.   You may write it on their backpack tag that they will receive the first day of school .

·      Carpool numbers need to be displayed on the passenger side dashboard before you enter the line.

·      Students will be called by number; they will exit the building through the media center double doors.

·      Daycare vans are loaded prior to carpool starting when possible. The first car in the carpool line will be called to move forward by a staff member once the daycare loading is complete.   If you are the first car in line, please wait at the Carpool Line Starts Here sign that is posted at the entrance.

·      Staff members will be present to supervise and assist as needed in opening/closing doors. Please practice door opening/closing with your child(ren).

·      If someone is picking up a student without a carpool number, or if you do not have your carpool number, you will be asked to park and go into the office to show ID.  

·      Please do not park your car and walk up to the carpool holding area to take your child from this area. Students waiting in the carpool pick up area can only be picked up by car.

For the safety of our students and staff:

-       The carpool lane is a No Cell Phone Zone.  No distracted drivers please!

-       At both drop off and pick-up, put your car all the way into park position once you stop.  It is not safe to just keep your foot on the brake while students are entering/exiting your vehicle.

 

Carpool takes place in the front of the school.

• Enter East Fox Ct.
• Proceed to your left and follow the line to the covered walkway.
• Please DO NOT drive around any of the cars in line as this jeopardizes the safety of our students and staff working car line.
• Students are called to their cars by their carpool number.  
• As each car proceeds to the covered area, the number is called so the student(s) can be ready for pickup.
• Please have the carpool number displayed clearly so staff can see them

Front, Side & Back Walkers:

• Students are escorted by staff to designated spots.
• Students then walk typically in groups to their neighborhoods.
• Since we are located within several neighborhoods, this is a popular choice for many families.
